HOME CASES Transnational Perspectives on Urban Violence Against Women and Girls

Transnational Perspectives on Urban Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) is an interdisciplinary project that examines the localised and transnational dynamics of VAWG experienced by women in the Complexo da Maré, a favela community in Rio de Janeiro, and among Brazilian migrant women in London. It explores the nature, causes and consequences of VAWG from a multi-scalar approach that acknowledges the linkages between the cities of the Global South and North through complex geographies of globalisation and international migration. A key aim is to delineate and understand the transnational continuities and differences in the experiences of violence among women in Rio de Janeiro and Brazilian women in London as well as identifying the sources of support available and the reasons why women may or may not use them and the outcomes.

They are located at the Queen Mary University of London, sitting under the umbrella of the People’s Palace Project.

They approached asked us to develop a website to communicate the results of their project and here’s the result: http://transnationalviolenceagainstwomen.org/
